Ornette Coleman

Ornette Coleman was a principal founder of free jazz and the creator of the harmolodic theory, a revolutionary musical philosophy that sought to equalize the roles of harmony, melody, and rhythm. Emerging in the late 1950s, his approach dismantled traditional jazz structures, abandoning fixed chord changes for a freer, more melodic and collective form of improvisation. Landmark albums for the #Atlantic# label, such as 'The Shape of Jazz to Come' and 'Free Jazz', were both groundbreaking and polarizing, showcasing a raw, blues-inflected alto saxophone tone that became his signature.
