Black Fatigues

An experimental project from Cities Aviv's Gavin Mays, 'Black Fatigues' ventures deep into soundscape territory, largely leaving behind the rhythmic structures of his primary work. The album operates as a kind of sonic diary, constructed from sinister loops, the warmth of worn tape, and samples torn from their original contexts to create an enveloping, nocturnal mood. Drawing on techniques from instrumental hip-hop and plunderphonics, the record builds a ghostly and hypnagogic atmosphere through its collage of sound objects and damaged analogue textures.
