Hourglass

'Hourglass' marks Antibalas's return to their instrumental roots, the first studio album following the departure of longtime frontman Duke Amayo. Released in 2025, the six-song collection is a deeply focused and entirely instrumental effort, recorded live over two days and built on compositions from both current and former members. The album continues the ensemble's foundational Afrobeat and funk sound while exploring the swing of Ghanaian highlife and more jazz-forward melodic approaches, using rhythm and melody exclusively to articulate themes previously conveyed through lyrics.
