Produced by Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü, the Chicago band's first full-length album elevated the standard hardcore template with complex arrangements and fierce, literate political commentary. Vic Bondi's roaring vocals and the band's use of intricate guitar textures effectively laid the groundwork for the ensuing post-hardcore and emocore movements. It remains one of the most intellectually ambitious releases of the Midwestern punk scene.
