Moving away from the abrasive noise of his No Wave origins, Arto Lindsay formed Ambitious Lovers with keyboardist Peter Scherer to explore a highly unorthodox fusion of sounds. 'Envy' juxtaposes Lindsay's skronking, atonal guitar work with sleek synthesizer pop and traditional Brazilian samba rhythms. The result is a challenging, culturally hybrid record that deliberately deconstructs traditional pop frameworks.
