Released posthumously, 'The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend' is the sole album from singer James "Baby Huey" Ramey, completed and produced by Curtis Mayfield. The record showcases Ramey's formidable vocals across a blend of psychedelic-tinged soul and hard funk, featuring Mayfield's compositions alongside expansive covers like Sam Cooke's 'A Change Is Gonna Come'. While not a commercial success upon its 1971 release, the album later achieved cult classic status, becoming a foundational source for hip-hop producers who frequently sampled its heavy drum breaks, particularly from the track 'Hard Times'.
