Self-produced under heavy lockdown conditions, the Montreal-based rapper heavily samples Black Sabbath and Christian hymns to forge an incredibly intense, gothic hip-hop experience. The lyricism acts as a visceral exorcism of religious trauma, racism, and the struggles of being a Black trans woman. The project's raw intensity and conceptual focus led to it unexpectedly winning the prestigious Polaris Music Prize.
