Seeking to expand upon their prior commercial triumphs, the New York hard rock quintet enlisted producer Tom Werman to craft a sleeker, radio-friendly sound. The resulting record significantly tones down their occult-heavy metallic edge in favor of tightly constructed pop-rock hooks and polished vocal harmonies. While the stylistic shift yielded highly melodic results, it polarized their established heavy metal fanbase.
