Blonde on Blonde
by Bob Dylan
As one of rock music's first double albums, 'Blonde on Blonde' largely resulted from sessions in Nashville that paired members of Bob Dylan's touring band with seasoned studio musicians after initial New York recordings proved frustrating. This collaboration produced what Dylan famously called a "thin, wild mercury sound," blending blues-rock with a unique, ambient production style arranged by producer Bob Johnston. The sprawling song cycle combines a modernist, visionary lyrical approach with colloquial wit across ambitious compositions like "Visions of Johanna" and the side-long "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands," solidifying the album as the expansive final entry in Dylan's mid-1960s electric trilogy.
