Divine Spear

On their second album, 'Divine Spear', the Finnish band Chalice moves away from pure heavy metal towards a sound rooted in 70s-era progressive and hard rock, with folk and art rock elements woven throughout. The album features a mystical and ethereal quality, with dynamic and varied songwriting that ranges from focused classic metal tracks to longer, more cinematic and epic compositions like the eight-and-a-half-minute “Age Ethereal”. While thematically the album looks to the cosmos for inspiration, it incorporates instruments like flute and old-school synths to create a sound that is both familiar and unique, with a notable doom element in some tracks.
