Chevelle's debut, 'Point #1', established their raw, alternative metal sound, heavily influenced by producer Steve Albini's unrefined recording style which drew comparisons to Helmet and Tool. While some critics noted repetitive structures, the album's soft-loud dynamics and Pete Loeffler's emotive vocals showcased the band's potential.
