Made Out of Sound

by Chris Corsano & Bill Orcutt

Made Out of Sound cover art

On 'Made Out of Sound', guitarist Bill Orcutt and drummer Chris Corsano deliver a series of dynamic, freely improvised pieces marked by Orcutt's fractured, blues-inflected guitar lines and Corsano's textural, polyrhythmic percussion. The album is notable for its unconventional production, having been recorded remotely with Corsano sending his drum tracks from Ithaca, NY, to Orcutt in San Francisco, who then overdubbed two distinct guitar parts. This process results in a sound that is both spacious and surprisingly immediate, capturing a kinetic, conversational interplay that pushes the boundaries of free jazz and experimental rock.
