Captain of None

French experimentalist Cécile Schott expands her intricate acoustic loops with heavy, rhythmic influences drawn from classic Jamaican dub music. Armed entirely with a treble viola da gamba and an array of delay pedals, the plucked and bowed arrangements mimic the deep basslines and echoes of reggae. The beautifully stark, vocal-forward compositions remain profoundly hypnotic and alien.
