The Brooklyn outfit’s debut album revives the gloomy, reverb-drenched jangle pop of the 1980s Flying Nun roster. Utilizing driving, primitive drum beats, twangy surf-rock guitars, and Brad Hargett's detached, Ian Curtis-esque baritone, the record perfectly encapsulated the burgeoning lo-fi indie-pop scene of New York. It was highly praised for successfully pairing deeply infectious pop melodies with a claustrophobic, spooky aesthetic.
