Devin Townsend deliberately shifted away from the dense complexity of his previous progressive metal works to embrace massive, unironic pop-rock hooks. Featuring heavily layered choirs and guest vocals from Anneke van Giersbergen, the record is an overwhelmingly optimistic and energetic 'epic' rock experience.
