Fifteen Saxophones

Another crucial document from the orbit of the Philip Glass Ensemble, saxophonist Dickie Landry crafts a massive, reverberating drone piece through the extensive use of studio overdubbing. By layering fifteen separate saxophone tracks on top of one another, he creates a dense, terrifyingly beautiful wall of acoustic minimalism. The resulting psychoacoustic effects push the instrument far past its traditional jazz contexts into pure avant-garde architecture.
