Carve the Runes Then Be Content With Silence

by Erland Cooper

Carve the Runes Then Be Content With Silence cover art

This conceptual album by Scottish composer Erland Cooper had a unique gestation; the sole master tape was planted in the soil of his native Orkney to be weathered and decomposed by the landscape for over a year. The recording features a 22-piece string ensemble and soprano, creating a serene and contemplative work of modern classical and ambient music. The project explores themes of time, nature, and the beauty of decay.
