Let Me Tell You

Hans Abrahamsen's 'let me tell you' is a highly acclaimed song cycle for soprano and orchestra, taking its text from Paul Griffiths' novel of the same name which reconstructs Ophelia's story using only the words she speaks in Shakespeare's *Hamlet*. The work, written for soprano Barbara Hannigan, is defined by its demanding vocal part and Abrahamsen's luminous, wintry orchestration, which creates a sound world of glistening, microtonal textures that range from spare and fragile to moments of powerful tumult. Combining compositional rigor with intense expressivity, the piece explores themes of memory, time, and nature from a reclaimed perspective.
