The Dirt of Luck
by Helium
Mary Timony guided the Boston-based band through an incredibly dense, heavily distorted subversion of traditional 1990s indie rock. Her distinctly deadpan, hypnotic vocal delivery contrasts sharply against sluggish, heavily detuned guitar dissonance and deeply cynical feminist lyricism. The intensely dark, highly lethargic atmosphere stands out as a distinctly moody masterpiece of the Matador Records catalog.
