Le Tioko-Tioko

'Ampsa: Le tioko-tioko' is a singular work of Malian psych-funk, emerging from a collaboration between music teacher Idrissa Soumaoro and his students at the Institute for Young Blind People, including members of the future Amadou & Mariam. The album channels a raw, hypnotic energy built on swirling organ riffs, driving percussion, and fervent vocals, all captured in a direct and unpolished production style that enhances its immediacy. Originally recorded at Radio Mali, the album’s near-mythical status was secured by its scarce initial pressing in East Germany, which made it a sought-after artifact of a golden era in West African music.
