The Wanderer

by Jana Winderen

The Wanderer cover art

Originally a multi-channel sound installation, 'The Wanderer' is constructed from hydrophone recordings captured in the Atlantic Ocean, from the North Pole to the equator. The composition explores the sonic world of plankton, whose Greek name 'planktos' means wanderer or drifter, and which forms the base of the entire oceanic ecosystem. By composing with the barely audible crackles and movements of these organisms alongside the sounds of fish and crustaceans, the work creates an immersive auditory experience that highlights a vast, unseen aquatic environment.
