Recorded in 1960 but shelved for six years, this collaboration explores the harmolodic concepts pioneered by Ornette Coleman. Coltrane adopts a more fragmented, rhythmic approach to his saxophone phrasing, interacting directly with Cherry's pocket trumpet over an open, chordless rhythm section.
