Compiled from an exhaustive 1958 recording session for Prestige Records, this posthumously organized release (in terms of Coltrane's time at the label) features him tackling familiar Great American Songbook numbers. Flanked by trumpeter Wilbur Harden and pianist Red Garland, Coltrane demonstrates his rapidly developing 'sheets of sound' approach over highly accessible, melodic ballad structures.
