Timewind

by Klaus Schulze

Timewind cover art

'Timewind' represents a pivotal moment in Klaus Schulze's career and the development of the Berlin School, marking his first solo album to prominently feature a sequencer. The album is structured around two side-long compositions dedicated to Richard Wagner: the rhythmically hypnotic "Bayreuth Return," recorded in a single take, contrasts with the atmospheric, multi-layered textures of the slower "Wahnfried 1883". Through its pioneering use of manipulated sequencer patterns and layered analogue synthesizers, the work established Schulze as a formidable force in electronic music, earning the Grand Prix du Disque from L'Académie Charles Cros.
