The Way Out
by L Voag
Operated as a pseudonym for the eccentric British artist Jim Welton, this incredibly obscure release is a labyrinthine exercise in tape manipulation and sound collage. The record aggressively splices disjointed post-punk instrumentation with bizarre spoken word samples and musique concrète textures, utterly defying traditional song structures. It remains a fascinating, highly radical document of the anarchic, DIY tape-trading underground of late-70s Britain.
