Alturas de Macchu Picchu
by Los Jaivas
On 'Alturas de Macchu Picchu', the band sets to music the epic poem of the same name by Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda, creating a definitive work of South American progressive rock. The album is built on a seamless fusion of symphonic rock and Andean folk traditions, blending electric guitars, Moog synthesizers, and grand pianos with a vast array of indigenous instruments like zampoñas, quenas, and tarkas. This ambitious musical undertaking, which mirrors the journey of Neruda's poem, was further immortalized by a historic television special filmed at the ruins of Machu Picchu itself, cementing the album's cultural significance.
