La Koro Sutro

by Lou Harrison

La Koro Sutro cover art

Translating the Buddhist 'Heart Sutra' into Esperanto, the American composer created a profoundly unique choral work set to an ensemble of custom-built, Indonesian-style percussion instruments. The seamless integration of Western choral traditions with the resonant, metallic textures of gamelan results in a deeply meditative, transcendent acoustic experience.
