Supported by Azar Lawrence on saxophone and Guilherme Franco's dense Brazilian percussion, Tyner's dense, muscular block chords push modal jazz structures to the brink of avant-garde abstraction. The ecstatic, spiritually charged atmosphere is indicative of the era's deep explorations of post-bop intensity.
