Released posthumously, this collection showcases the compositions of Michio Miyagi, a koto virtuoso and a principal figure in the New Japanese Music movement. His work is characterized by the blending of traditional Japanese instrumentation with Western compositional forms and techniques, an approach exemplified in his most famous piece, 'Haru no Umi' (The Sea in Spring). Miyagi also expanded the sonic palette of Japanese music by inventing new instruments, such as the 17-string bass koto, further cementing his role as a pivotal modernizer of the nation's musical heritage.
