Collaborating once again with producer and bassist Marcus Miller, 'Amandla' continues Miles Davis's sleek, digitally polished explorations into late-80s jazz-funk. The title, derived from the Zulu word for power, nods to the album's subtle political undercurrents, dedicating a track to Mr. Pastorius and featuring appearances by alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett. The smooth, synthesized production gloss highlights Davis's iconic, muted trumpet tone in a highly contemporary setting.
