Bitches Brew

by Miles Davis

Bitches Brew cover art

Marking a pivotal shift into his "electric period," Miles Davis's 'Bitches Brew' abandoned traditional jazz structures for dense, psychedelic explorations rooted in rock and funk. The album's signature sound was forged by a large ensemble, often featuring multiple drummers and electric keyboardists, engaging in sprawling improvisations from minimal compositional sketches. These lengthy studio sessions were then radically transformed by producer Teo Macero, who used pioneering tape-editing techniques, loops, and effects to construct the album's final form, solidifying its status as a foundational and controversial touchstone of the jazz-rock fusion genre.
