Documenting a series of December 1965 sets at the Chicago club, this massive box set captures Miles Davis's legendary "Second Great Quintet" rapidly dismantling and reinventing standard repertoire. Encouraged by the young rhythm section's "anti-jazz" philosophy, the group deliberately sabotages familiar melodies, pulling them apart into breathless, abstract polyrhythms and daring harmonic shifts. It is considered a crucial bridge between traditional bop and the pure abstraction of his later acoustic work.
