For this 1961 Atlantic session (released in late 1962), Ornette Coleman controversially abandoned his signature plastic alto to play the tenor saxophone. Featuring the returning rhythm section of Jimmy Garrison and Ed Blackwell, the album offers a grittier, more muscular tone to his harmolodic free-jazz explorations.
