Ornette Coleman's second album was a radical step forward, subtitled 'The New Music of Ornette Coleman.' Most notably, he dispensed with the piano, freeing the horns from conventional chord changes. Featuring the legendary rhythm section of Percy Heath and Shelly Manne, the album is a fascinating document of his developing 'harmolodic' concept, full of his signature blues-drenched, folk-like melodies and unfettered improvisation.
