The King of Whys

The King of Whys cover art

Recorded at April Base Studios in Wisconsin with producer S. Carey of Bon Iver, 'The King of Whys' marks a significant sonic shift for Mike Kinsella's Owen project. For the first time, Kinsella collaborated with outside musicians for an Owen record, resulting in a more lush and expansive sound incorporating strings and fuller band arrangements. The album delves into themes of fatherhood, aging, and marital anxieties, balancing intricate acoustic guitar work with a broader, more textured production.
