Holoceno

by Papangu

Holoceno cover art

Papangu's debut album 'Holoceno' is a dense and technical work, fusing the propulsive, martial rhythms of zeuhl with the abrasive textures of sludge metal and the complex structures of avant-garde progressive rock. The band's intricate and ferocious performances, sung entirely in Portuguese, are built upon syncopated drumming, layered guitar riffs, and the integration of native Brazilian rhythms alongside guest synthesizers and saxophone. Thematically, it is a concept album inspired by ecological eschatology and the modernist literature of Northeastern Brazil, telling the story of a bandit who inadvertently causes an environmental disaster while trying to escape his own fate.
