The Way Up

An ambitious and monumental work, 'The Way Up' consists of a single, continuous 68-minute piece of music, divided into four parts. This album represents the Pat Metheny Group at its most compositionally focused, moving away from the traditional head-solo-head format in favor of a long-form, through-composed approach. The music is dense and complex, built from interlocking parts and recurring motifs that are developed over the course of the album. It's a major statement that pushes the boundaries of long-form composition in a jazz context.
