Ugly Season

Originating as the score for choreographer Kate Wallich's dance piece 'The Sun Still Burns Here', 'Ugly Season' is a largely experimental and instrumental work that prioritizes atmosphere and physicality. Co-produced with Blake Mills, the album deconstructs conventional song structures in favor of sprawling, avant-garde compositions that blend ambient synthesizers, chamber pop arrangements, industrial noise, and minimalist piano. The result is an abstract and physically expressive collection where Mike Hadreas's vocals are often used as a textural element within the dense, multi-layered soundscapes.
