Commissioned and conducted by the esteemed Pierre Boulez, this recording features the Ensemble InterContemporain performing Zappa's complex orchestral compositions. The album bridges the gap between rigorous European modernist tradition and Zappa's distinctively cynical, American avant-garde sensibilities. It also incorporates early Synclavier work, marking Zappa's increasing pivot toward electronic composition and away from traditional rock ensembles.
