Loosely based on George Orwell's 'Animal Farm', Pink Floyd's 'Animals' is a concept album offering a bleak critique of the sociopolitical conditions in 1970s Britain, categorizing society into predatory dogs, tyrannical pigs, and a mindless flock of sheep. The album's sound is defined by three sprawling rock compositions, noted for their long-form structure and David Gilmour's incisive guitar solos, which are framed by the quieter, acoustic-driven song 'Pigs on the Wing'. Recorded at the band's new Britannia Row Studios, the sessions were characterized by Roger Waters' increasing creative dominance and internal friction that foreshadowed future lineup changes and directly inspired the themes of their next album, 'The Wall'.
