True Violet

Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'If I Were a Butterfly', Rayland Baxter expands his sonic palette into psychedelic and funk-influenced territory, a notable shift from the more straightforward alternative country of his earlier work. The album serves as an intensely personal reflection on loss and existentialism, largely inspired by the passing of his father, legendary musician Bucky Baxter, who is also featured posthumously on the record. While navigating themes of grief and uncertainty, the collection maintains a sense of joy and childlike wonder, blending lush, trippy arrangements with indie rock and soulful balladry.
