Written during a period of intense inner-child therapy, the pop star's sophomore album blends grand, early 2000s stadium rock aesthetics with modern dance-pop hooks. Moving away from the nu-metal pastiches of her debut, the production incorporates elements of country-pop, adult contemporary, and driving synth-rock to underscore highly emotional narratives of religious trauma and healing.
