Sound

by Roscoe Mitchell Sextet

Sound cover art

The very first album to emerge from Chicago's legendary Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). 'Sound' was a revolutionary statement, de-emphasizing conventional solos and swing in favor of exploring texture, space, and pure sound. The use of silence and 'little instruments' (bells, whistles) as legitimate musical elements was groundbreaking, offering a completely different approach to free improvisation that would become the foundation for the Art Ensemble of Chicago.
