On 'La grande folie', the French sextet San Salvador builds upon the folkloric traditions of the Massif Central, transforming them into a powerful and hypnotic musical experience. The album is defined by its complex six-part vocal polyphonies, sung in the Occitan language, which are intricately woven over a foundation of driving, minimalist percussion including floor toms and hand claps. This unique fusion of raw vocal energy and primal rhythm, which reinterprets traditional poetics, earned the album a Victoires du Jazz award for World Music Album of the Year.
