The Freed Man
by Sebadoh
Originally circulating as an impossibly massive cassette release, Lou Barlow and Eric Gaffney's first proper album is a cornerstone of the 1990s lo-fi indie rock revolution. Recorded entirely on 4-track cassette recorders, the record is a dizzying, chaotic patchwork of tender acoustic ballads, abrasive noise fragments, and bizarre found-sound tape collages. It established Sebadoh's defining aesthetic of fragmented, hyper-intimate emotional vulnerability.
