Dots and Loops

by Stereolab

Dots and Loops cover art

On 'Dots and Loops', Stereolab pivoted from their signature krautrock drones towards a lush blend of bossa nova, 1960s pop, and jazz. [1] This was the band's first album recorded using a digital audio workstation, a technical shift with producers John McEntire and Andi Toma that enabled a new focus on looped compositions and meticulously layered arrangements. [1, 2] The resulting sound combines intricate horn and string arrangements with complex time signatures, underpinning Létitia Sadier’s bilingual lyrics which offer critiques of consumerism and materialism.
