Ex Machina

A collaboration between composer and saxophonist Steve Lehman and artistic director Frédéric Maurin, 'Ex Machina' merges the Orchestre National de Jazz with live, interactive electronics developed at IRCAM. The album’s compositions draw on the principles of spectral harmony, exploring complex sonorities and otherworldly textures through the interplay between the large ensemble and real-time computer-generated responses. This fusion of intricate orchestration, advanced rhythmic propulsion, and soloist improvisation creates a dense and futuristic soundscape that pushes the boundaries of the traditional big band format.
