Hunger for a Way Out
by Sweeping Promises
Recorded entirely on a single microphone in an abandoned concrete laboratory, the Boston duo delivers a brilliantly stripped-down, angular post-punk debut. The infectious, rhythmic basslines and Lira Mondal's commanding vocal yelps capture the frantic, DIY energy of late-1970s acts like Kleenex or The Slits. The incredibly lo-fi recording approach added an essential, gritty charm to their highly melodic songwriting.
