Following his blockbuster debut, D'Arby delivered an incredibly ambitious, unapologetically eccentric sophomore album that completely bewildered his record label and mainstream audience. The record is a sprawling, psychedelic exploration of progressive soul, incorporating a cappella arrangements, sitars, and dense sociopolitical lyricism. While deemed a commercial disaster at the time, its fearless creative vision has since been heavily re-evaluated and praised.
