The debut album from The Cinematic Orchestra immediately established their signature sound. Led by Jason Swindell, the project was conceived as a soundtrack to an imaginary film, built from a collage of jazz samples and live instrumentation. Its blend of downtempo, crime jazz, and avant-garde sensibilities created a uniquely nocturnal and atmospheric listening experience that was a key release for the Ninja Tune label.
